LIGHT UP AMERICA YELLOW

On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 27th

A Nation Illuminated
in Remembrance

Requesting politicians and public figures who care, to hold press conferences at major illuminated buildings/sites, to continually educate about the horrors of the Holocaust, when good people ignored the signs of hatred and scapegoating that resulted in the murder of 6,000,000 Jews including 1,500,000 children plus millions of non-Jewish victims.

ABOUT THE COALITION
Uniting states, cities, and institutions in a national display of remembrance and solidarity.

The Light Up America Yellow Coalition brings together public officials, Jewish organizations, community leaders, and landmark institutions from across the country to honor International Holocaust Remembrance Day each year on January 27. By illuminating buildings, bridges, and public spaces in yellow, we create a visible tribute to the eleven million victims of the Holocaust and reaffirm our shared commitment to combating antisemitism, hate, and historical denial.

What began as a regional effort has grown into a national movement, with more states joining each year. Our coalition works directly with governors’ offices, mayors, city councils, and civic partners to coordinate lighting events, raise awareness, and encourage meaningful conversations about remembrance and education. Together, we strive to ensure that the lessons of the Holocaust are never forgotten — and that future generations continue to stand against hatred in all its forms.

WHY JANUARY 27th MATTERS
A day of remembrance, reflection, and truth.

January 27 marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration and extermination camp. In 2005, the United Nations designated this date as International Holocaust Remembrance Day — a solemn moment for the world to honor the eleven million victims who were persecuted and murdered during the Holocaust.

Lighting landmarks in yellow on this day is more than a symbolic gesture. It is a reminder to reflect on the consequences of hatred, speak openly about the lessons of history, and stand united against antisemitism and intolerance. By illuminating cities, campuses, and public spaces across America, we help ensure that the memory of the Holocaust remains present, powerful, and impossible to ignore.
