LIGHTING UP POLAND YELLOW

Poland is preparing to join the international expansion of the Light Up America Yellow initiative, extending Holocaust remembrance beyond the United States. While participating locations are still being finalized, interest and coordination efforts are underway to honor International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27 through illuminated landmarks and public spaces.

As the birthplace of many of the most significant Holocaust memorial sites, Poland holds a central place in Holocaust history and remembrance. By participating in this initiative, locations across Poland will join communities worldwide in promoting education, reflection, and unity. This page will be updated with photos and details as locations officially confirm their involvement.

Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation - Poland

January 27, 2025, the Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation illuminated the Chevra Lomdei Mishnayot Synagogue, the last remaining synagogue in Oświęcim, as part of the global Yellow Light campaign.

For the first time on the anniversary of Auschwitz’s liberation, light extended from a living synagogue just minutes from the camp built to annihilate the Jewish people.

Eight decades later, the message was unmistakable: we are still here.

This was not a ceremony. It was an act of witness. Jewish life illuminated at the edge of Auschwitz, the largest Jewish cemetery on earth.
